Who we are
Crimson Barocca, LCSW-C is a licensed clinical social worker and trauma-informed clinician based in Baltimore, Maryland. For more than two decades, she has dedicated her career to help children, adults and their families navigate the impact of trauma, abuse, and exposure to violence. She draws on evidence-based non-leading approaches that support reliable memory science, resilience, and recovery for trauma survivors. Crimson has most of her clinical experience with children and more recently with adult survivors, in forensic contexts. She has understanding and training in the dynamics of trauma and specialty in court involved cases (both civil and criminal). Crimson’s depth of understanding of legal processes allows her to support clients beyond the session and into the courtroom, where appropriate, to reduce re-traumatization.
In 2025, Crimson was recognized as a Mental Health Hero by the Maryland Daily Record for her work with survivors of trauma. She has trained thousands of professionals worldwide, developed nationally recognized trauma-response programs, and serves as a blind expert witness to educate courtrooms on child sexual abuse and sexual assault. These experiences allow Crimson to bring both clinical skills and practical insight to her work with clients.
Treatment Approach
The foundation of Red Tail Therapy is grounded in trauma-informed care and evidence-based psychotherapy for children, teens, LGBTQIA+ young adults, and adult survivors. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, we provide individual therapy both virtually and in-person, at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you. Whether you are seeking help for trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or life transitions, Red Tail Therapy offers a compassionate and supportive space for healing.
As a Baltimore therapist specializing in trauma and emotional regulation, Crimson partners with clients to help them understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while developing effective coping skills. Her clinical approach emphasizes collaboration and empowerment and belief that healing is most effective when clients feel heard, respected, and in control of their process.
Our practice integrates mindfulness, TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR, somatic nature-informed therapy, and attachment-based approaches to promote resilience, balance, and wellbeing. We offer nature-informed therapy for clients who find healing and grounding in outdoor or experiential settings. This holistic blend of evidence-based and experiential approaches helps clients reconnect with themselves and their environment in ways that support sustainable healing.
If you are searching for trauma therapy in Baltimore, child therapy, or an LGBTQIA-affirming therapist in Maryland, Red Tail Therapy provides an intentional, and accessible path toward recovery and resilience. Each session is tailored to your unique needs, offering space for meaningful connection, emotional safety, and growth.
Clinical Focus
Crimson is a licensed clinician in Maryland who works primarily with adult survivors of trauma, children (ages 6+), teens, and individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+. Her clinical focus includes anxiety, depression, trauma, and the stressors that arise from relationships, identity, and major life transitions. She partners with clients who wish to deepen their understanding of their thoughts and emotions, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop effective coping strategies for both internal and relational challenges. Sessions are available in Baltimore and the surrounding counties.
For children, Crimson provides experiential and developmentally appropriate treatment that supports emotional expression, regulation, and connection. Her approach is child-centered and engaging, integrating creative, play-based, and sensory-informed methods utilizing nature both indoors and outdoors, to help children process their experiences in ways that feel natural and safe. Through curiosity, attunement, and collaboration with caregivers, Crimson helps children build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and develop a greater sense of confidence and security.
Trauma and EMDR
My work is grounded in trauma-informed care and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), prioritizing relief from present-day symptoms and challenges, and exploring traumatic memories only when it is therapeutically appropriate.
EMDR supports adaptive processing by helping the brain and body integrate experiences that may feel stuck, overwhelming, or unresolved. Using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or tones), EMDR helps the nervous system reprocess distressing material in a way that reduces emotional intensity and allows more adaptive beliefs, emotions, and responses to emerge.
Initial work EMDR will focus on resourcing, which is the strengthening of internal and external supports that may be utilized throughout trauma processing. Resourcing helps build emotional stability, increase a sense of safety, and reinforce a client’s capacity to cope with stress and challenge.
What Is Resourcing in EMDR?
Resourcing is the process of intentionally building access to positive, grounding, and supportive experiences that help regulate the nervous system. This may include strengthening feelings of safety, calm, confidence, connection, or self-compassion, as well as identifying supportive relationships, meaningful activities, or personal strengths.
Resourcing is not about avoiding difficult experiences—it is about ensuring you have tools and supports in place so therapy feels manageable and empowering. These resources are practiced and reinforced so they are available both during sessions and in everyday life.
